Rest in Peace, Lilly Pulitzer - 1931 to 2013

 (source)

The "Queen of Prep," Lilly Pulitzer, passed away today at the age of 81. Known for her clothing and housewares designed with bright, colorful, floral prints, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and the Rockefeller and Vanderbilt families were among the high society socialites that called themselves fans of her dresses. The brand's beginnings date back to when Pulitzer and her husband owned a juice stand and she designed her first dress with a print that would disguise the mess she ended up wearing while squeezing fruit. Before long, she was selling more dresses than juice, and she got out of the juice business.

Life's a party. Dress like it.
-Lilly Pulitzer

I think Lilly's story is an inspiration to girls everywhere that we can do anything we set our minds to as long as we've got a pretty dress and a cheery outlook.

Rest in peace, Lillian Pulitzer.
